Cupcake City is owned and operated by two friends with a constant craving for something delicious.
Cupcake City first opened its doors at 137 Main Street in Reading in November 2011. The owners, Kristin Cataldo and Karin DiNapoli, were looking for an opportunity to put their baking talents to use. Kristin, an attorney who had practiced law in Boston for 10 years, was looking for a change, and Karin, who had a booming out-of-the house baking business, realized that there was a need for a gourmet cupcake shop on the North Shore. As local moms with school age kids, they also recognized that there was a need for a new venue for children to have birthday parties or other special events. Thus, Cupcake City was born.
Since November 2011, Cupcake City has been on a wild ride! In the Spring of 2012, Cupcake City went mobile with its pink cupcake truck, which can be found throughout Eastern Massachusetts, Boston and the North Shore. In addition to the the truck's participation in several local food truck programs, it has become a favorite of local companies to rent for employee or customer appreciation events. .
Cupcake City has been featured on the Phantom Gourmet twice, and its 2013 World Series "Fear the Beard" cupcakes made the WEEI broadcast, as well as the Fox 25 and Channel 4 news. In 2015, Cupcake City's "DeflateGate" cupcakes were featured on multiple news stations, including ESPN. In December 2013, a Channel 5 news article on "The 10 Best Places to Live in Massachusetts" named Reading as #2, highlighting that Cupcake City is "home to some of the best cupcakes in New England."
